Oils that keep flowing for easier cold starting

Very low temperatures cause motor oils to thicken, which can prevent engines from starting. The oil in a clean engine can flow more quickly to where it is needed and is likely to have improved access to surfaces, so that the engine is better protected.

Shell Helix HX3 C motor oil has been formulated with special base oils that thicken less than conventional oils for easier cold starting. Shell Helix HX3 C (SG or SJ) delivers immediate clean-up action and helps to prevent the build-up of dirt and sludge in older engines. Shell Helix HX3 C (SF) helps to prevent the build-up of dirt and sludge in older engines. Both specifications lock away harmful dirt and deposits, thus enabling Shell Helix HX3 C to get to the engine surfaces, where it works hard to protect them from wear and help to prolong engine life.

Shell Helix HX3 C (SF) is formulated for gasoline engines with conventional carburettors without blow-by-gas recirculation. Shell Helix HX3 C (SG or SJ) is for engines with blow-by-gas recirculation. All Shell Helix HX3 C oils are suitable for naturally aspirated or turbocharged indirect-injection diesel engines without blow-by-gas recirculation. They meet industry specifications.

Shell tests

To clean and protect an engine, the oil must continue to perform until it is removed when the car is serviced. With some manufacturers recommending longer service intervals, an oil’s ability to stay fit is even more important. Throughout the oil’s life, it has to disperse more and more dirt – keeping it locked away and preventing it from being redeposited in the engine.
