Ho Chi Minh City (July 17th 2013) - Shell today launches Shell Rimula R4 X, a new heavy-duty engine oil designed to meet the needs of truckers and fleet operators keen to enjoy a longer lasting engine. Shell has applied its market leading research and innovation to create a new flagship product for the Shell Rimula range, offering superior triple protection in three critical areas:

  • Acid control and corrosion - protects against corrosion from the acids formed as fuel burns;
  • Deposits - keeps engines clean for optimum performance and long life; and
  • Engine wear - keeps moving metal engine surfaces apart for long engine life.

Shell Rimula R4 X is specifically designed to work with a wide range of high-power, heavy-duty diesel engines and has been shown to work effectively in a variety of challenging driving environments. It has been rigorously tested and verified by leading industry experts and truck manufacturers in real-world operating conditions, and shown to offer potential savings for drivers and fleet owners through longer oil drain intervals, longer vehicle life and reduced maintenance costs.

Mr. Tran Hong Van, General Manger of Shell Vietnam, said that the new Shell Rimula R4 X can help fleet owners and operators to control maintenance and operating costs by providing a versatile one-oil solution for modern fleets. “Maintaining cleanliness in an engine is crucial for operating efficiency and wear control. Shell Rimula R4 X’s optimized detergent additive system uses detergents to reduce piston deposits, and soot dispersants to reduce sludge deposits in various parts of heavy-duty diesel engines more effectively and efficiently than ever” he explained.

Shell Rimula R4 X really is the oil that works hard. “In industry and OEM engine tests, Shell Rimula R4 X has been shown to offer 50% more protection from corrosion, 50% better engine cleanliness and 30% better wear protection than is required to meet standard API and ACEA specifications*” Van added.

Shell Rimula R4 X replaces Shell Rimula R3 X, and provides truck drivers and modern fleet operators with a simple, versatile one-oil solution that meets a wider range of industry and OEM specifications than Shell Rimula R3 X. Shell Rimula R4 X contains a specially optimized combination of performance additives and chemicals designed to provide the right level of engine cleanliness, wear and oxidation protection under tough conditions in engines with exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and provides improved protection for previous engine designs. Meeting the requirements of engines with EGR and offering significant improvements in engine cleanliness, acid corrosion care and engine wear protection, and cost-effective one-oil solution that can help them cut costs and run their business even more efficiently. It is suitable for a wide range of vehicle types, from heavy and large trucks to buses and construction heavy equipment.

Shell Rimula R4 X helps to prevent oil thickening and the formation of harmful deposits in all areas of the engine, including the bulk oil in the sump and the thin oil films at high temperatures in the piston ring belt area. Shell Rimula R4 X offers superior engine wear protection through the addition of anti-wear additives that are designed to form protective films in metal-to-metal contacts under different engine operating conditions. The API CI-4 specification compliant Shell Rimula R4 X also meets a wider range of industry and original equipment manufacturers’ (OEM) specifications. In industry and OEM engine tests, Shell Rimula R4 X has been shown to offer 50% more protection from corrosion, 50% better engine cleanliness and 30% better wear protection than is required to meet standard API and ACEA specifications.*
